Owner’s Guide to Caring for Your Ace or Founder Watch
Thank you for purchasing a Martenero. With occasional care and proper handling, your watch will last a lifetime or longer. This guide will give you the basics on how to operate and maintain your Ace or Founder watch.
SETTING THE TIME
- Turn the crown counterclockwise until it pops free.
- To set the time, pull the crown out two clicks. Turn the crown in either direction to set the correct time.
- Push the crown back in all the way, and turn it clockwise while pushing in until the threads catch. Keep turning clockwise until it's reasonably tight, just as you would a bottle cap.
WINDING YOUR WATCH
Your watch is powered by an automatic movement. The natural movements of your arm will cause the rotor to spin, automatically winding the watch. No need to ever change a battery since your watch does not contain one. To start your watch, simply give it a shake. As you wear it throughout the day, the rotor will spin and wind the watch. When not being worn, the power reserve will keep your watch going. A fully wound watch will run for about 45 hours. If necessary, you can also wind your watch manually. Unscrew the crown and pull it out slightly. Then turn it clockwise. You’ll feel some resistance as the mainspring is wound.
PERFORMANCE
Accuracy
Each Martenero watch is regulated in our New York facility for accuracy. That said, mechanical movements can be affected by many variables. You can expect your watch to be accurate within -20 to +40 seconds per day. If it’s any more than that, let us know.
Water Resistance
Your watch is water resistant to a depth of up to 100 meters. This means it will survive and thrive in most aquatic activities including swimming, sailing, etc. Make sure that the crown is properly screwed down and tightened before engaging in any such activities. An open crown will allow water to enter the watch, which will damage the movement.
CARE & PERFORMANCE
Your watch is a precision instrument, but it’s still a pretty durable machine. You don’t have to do much to keep it up and running for a very long time.
Handling
Avoid excessively rough treatment, such as drops, impacts, and scrapes. Be delicate when the crown is unscrewed and the stem is exposed.
Cleaning
To clean the watch, simply wipe with a dry cloth. You can also wipe with a damp cloth to clean more thoroughly, but make sure to remove the leather strap and screw the crown in tightly before getting the watch wet.
MAINTENANCE
Professional maintenance is rarely necessary. If the watch is performing erratically or has become inaccurate, however, it may need a cleaning, re-lubrication, and adjustment from a watchmaker. To be on the safe side, it's a good idea to have a watchmaker inspect your watch every 5 years or so.
LEATHER STRAPS
A regularly worn leather strap can be expected to last about a year, depending on how your wear it and its exposure to the elements. A few things you can do to extend its life:
- Never wear it in the water, or when you will be sweating excessively.
- Wipe it down with a soft dry cloth to clean, though occasionally you can use a damp cloth.
- You may use a leather conditioner or cleaner if you wish.
WARRANTY
Martenero watches are covered by a two-year warranty. If you have any problems within two years of the date of purchase, we will repair or replace your watch for free. Damage caused by accidents, mishandling, modifications or tampering, etc., will void your warranty.
